A Comedy

by

Ian McWethy

When a man is accused of abducting half a dozen cats, it's a simple open-and-shut case, even for a jury that's filled with oddballs like a dim-witted PR guy, a bickering couple, and a man obsessed with french fries. After all, every scrap of evidence indicts the accused. (I mean so clearly. The man is very, very guilty of stealing cats. Case closed.) And yet, Juror #8, a wannabe lawyer, believes that the "Cat Burglar" is innocent. Will he be able to sway the other jury members? Or will they side with Juror #3, the only sane man in the room? A hilarious parody of 12 Angry Men.

The Herdmans are the worst kids in the history of the world. They lie, steal, smoke cigars, swear, and hit little kids. So no one is prepared when this outlaw family invades church one Sunday and decides to take over the annual Christmas pageant.
None of the Herdmans has ever heard the Christmas story before. Their interpretation of the tale -- the Wise Men are a bunch of dirty spies and Herod needs a good beating -- has a lot of people up in arms. But it will make this year's pageant the most unusual anyone has seen and, just possibly, the best one ever.

Eccentric German director Hermet Von Kibbel drags the cast of the hokey hit TV western series “Days of the OK Corral” to a remotestudio in the middle of the desert.  Von Kibbel demands absolute realism to shoot an episode about the legendary Native American spirit known as the Rattler. The shooting begins, the script is awful, the acting hilarious — especially by the inept star, Hoyt — but a fired blank turns out to be not so blank, and soon Hermet lies dead.

Or is he? Is it all part of his “game” of realism? Is he a victim of an irate cast member? Or was he the target of an ancient spirit hungry for vengeance?

It's fast-paced dialogue, colorful characters, tingling suspense, and frantic action as the group desperately tries to solve the murder.

Nunsense begins when the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, has accidentally poisoned 52 of the sisters, and they are in dire need of funds for the burials. The sisters decide that the best way to raise the money is to put on a variety show, so they take over the school auditorium, which is currently set up for the eighth grade production of “Grease.” Here we meet Reverend Mother Regina, a former circus performer; Sister Mary Hubert, the Mistress of Novices; a streetwise nun from Brooklyn named Sister Robert Anne; Sister Mary Leo, a novice who is a wannabe ballerina; and the delightfully wacky Sister Mary Amnesia, the nun who lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, an audience quiz, and comic surprises, this show has become an international phenomenon. With more than 5000 productions worldwide, it has been translated into 21 languages.
